The Burren

To get here by air
The Burren is located in the West of Ireland, in North County Clare. The closest airport is Shannon International Airport approximately 40 minutes by road.  Shannon Airport has direct connections from USA (New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia) and mainland Europe (London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Nice, Poitiers, Warsaw, Faro, Krakow and more) serving the West Coast of Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way.  Airlines serving Shannon Airport include Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Air Transat.

To get here by Car
The Burren is easily accessed by road from Galway (45 minutes to the North Burren), Ennis (20 minutes to Corofin in the South Burren), Limerick (1 hour to Corofin in the South Burren) and from the ferry to and from Killimer in Kerry (45 minutes) Dublin is approximately 3 hours via Limerick.

Cavan

Cavan is located in the centre of Ireland.

To get here by Car
Cavan is located on the main N3 Dublin – Donegal road and is a central point between Dublin, Belfast, Donegal, Galway and Sligo. Cavan is located less than two hours from the ferry ports in Dublin, Dun Laoghaire and Belfast, and the airports of Belfast and Dublin.

To get here by Bus
Cavan town is serviced by hourly buses from Dublin and Donegal. Cavan town is also serviced regularly from Belfast, Sligo and Galway. There is a daily service from Dublin Airport direct to and from Cavan town.

Mulranny and the Great Western Greenway – Co. Mayo

From Dublin Airport:
From Airport take the M50 following all signs for west and N4/N5. At junction 7 take M4 marked Westport/Sligo via Mullingar, Longford. At Longford take the N5 marked Castlebar.
At Castlebar take R311 to Newport; continue through Newport to Mulranny on the N59. From Ireland West Airport Knock: From Airport take the N17 to Charlestown, then a left turning in Charlestown onto the N5 signposted Castlebar. Continue to Castlebar, and then take the R311 signposted Newport. Travel through Newport to Mulranny on the N59.

From Westport:
Take the N59, through Newport continue on R311 to Mulranny village.

Nearest town is Bantry. OSI Discovery Series Maps 88 and 85. From Cork take the N71 to Bantry (or at Bandon take the R586 to Dunmanway, Drimoleague, Bantry).
Approx 3km outside Bantry on the Cork side turn left onto the R591 – following signs for Sheep’s Head/Durrus. In Durrus take the right hand fork toward Ahakista/Kilcrohane


Carlingford & The Cooley Peninsula Co Louth

From the South
Follow signs for M1 towards Belfast. Travel on M1 to the end (approx 50 miles) and take exit off at Junction 18- signposted (R152) N52 Dundalk North Carlingford. Take 4th exit off at next roundabout signposted Carlingford R173 and travel to next roundabout and take 2nd exit off signposted Carlingford. Follow signs to Carlingford – there is just one left turn to do just 2 miles before you get to Carlingford but it is well signposted.

From the North
Head south out of Belfast on the M1 towards Dublin. Once on the motorway you are 1hr away. After about 10 miles, exit at junction 7, left signposted to Newry on the A1. Head towards Newry, follow signs for the The Quays – a shopping centre with a multiplex cinema & Sainsburys. Turn left at the traffic lights taking you along the side of canal, canal is on your left, shopping centre is on your right and mountain straight ahead (where Carlingford is). You are now 12 minutes away.

By Road:
Loop Head is accessed from the N67 Kilrush-Kilkee road

By Public Transport
You could travel by train to Limerick or Ennis train stations. Bus services run regularly to Kilkee and Kilrush. Taxi transfer can be arranged to your accommodation. See Ireland’s Transport Planner for more details.

Clonakilty & District Co Cork

Travel By Road
– Clonakilty is located in West Cork approximately 50km south of Cork City. When travelling from Dublin or Wexford follow the South Ring Road under the Jack Lynch Tunnel near Cork City and continue by following all signs for West Cork and follow the N71. This will bring you to Clonakilty.

Travel By Rail - If you have arrived in Ireland by air or sea at Dublin / Dun Laoghaire a comfortable way to travel onward to Cork is by train. travel from Heuston rail station in Dublin to Kent station in Cork (about 2 1/2 hours) . Transfer to bus station to complete journey by bus to Clonakilty.
