COUNTY CAVAN is a beautiful land of lakes in the middle of the island of Ireland. The people are down-to-earth, friendly and welcoming. Restaurants rank among the best in the country and our love of music is known to continue into the early hours..
Cavan town or “An Cabhan” in Gaeilge is an old word meaning “The Hollow” – and in a simple way that says a lot about this place. Cavan is a refuge, a place to rejuvenate, a shelter from stress. Cavan town is a celebrated town with many fine buildings and historic sites. Visitors will enjoy the lakeside walk, parks, cycle trails, busy pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, fine hotels, a leisure complex and equestrian centre. A state-of-the-art Central Library also houses the genealogy centre and tourist office.

2013 Theme – Irelands Eden
The theme of the 2013 EDEN competition was ‘Accessible Tourism’ and Cavan was chosen following on-site assessments by a panel of expert adjudicators. Cavan town has made major efforts to provide an accessible tourism experience for all visitors regardless of ability.
In Cavan, accessibility means inclusivity both in attitude and in the services provided. We welcome all visitors to Cavan and are delighted that Cavan town is the winner of the EDEN award for accessibility in 2013. The Johnston Central Library, Cavan Leisure Centre and Con Smith Park are just some of the attractions that are fully accessible to all visitors.
